Heard. at The Aperture
I made my first visit to The Aperture at the end of September 2024, my final trip to the city before moving. I’d been navigating new allergies for over a year, and my friends were excited to take me to a restaurant with a reputation for an accommodating menu and kitchen. Just weeks before my visit, the restaurant was featured in the New York Times 50 Best Restaurants in the country and was in talks for a James Beard Nomination (later cemented).
At the time, I was completely oblivious to all the hype but I was hyped on my own accord after one of the best meals I can remember in years and an unmatched depth of care and hospitality.
Fast forward three months. I’d moved to Cincinnati and was working a serving job in a busy neighborhood burger joint with intentions of learning to bartend. Bartender spots were limited and locked in where I was at, so I sent cold emails to restaurants on the cutting edge of the city and culture expecting nothing in return. Within the week I heard back from The Aperture, which (divinely) had an unexpected opening behind the bar just days after my email.
The energy was attuned to something higher and a genuine match, even though I was coming in completely green, knowing only how to make a decent drink for a kickback. I was eager to learn everything. Seven months later, I’ve been entrusted with the bar and given the liberty to contribute creatively to our menu and overall vibe.
A restaurant of this creative caliber deserves and requires sounds that resonate and amplify the beauty of the space, flavors and craft being experienced.
I’m honored to leave an imprint on the overall experience of The Aperture through beverage and sound.
