Daze
is a collection of playlists intended for attuning to the rhythm of the week and the planetary energies of each day.
The Daze playlists span genres across seven broad categories corresponded to each day. Though distinct, the daily categories are personal, intuited and overlapping.
MONDAZE was the day to start the series. Not because corporate culture says so (though maybe indirectly and unintentionally, since the earliest daily commute listenings I can remember are surely some source of inspiration), but because that was the first day I curated for.
At the time, my spirituality became deeply intertwined with the Moon cycles, and I found myself with a bank of songs saved just for Mondays.
Recently I learned about the biodynamic calendar, by which you can expect different flavor profiles to present themselves in wine given the position of the moon. For me, that was just additional and excess proof of the immense influence of the Moon on all of nature on Earth.
Sounds for Monday consist of soul and root music spanning geographies and generations.
TUESDAZE are the days of Mars which, in nearly every culture, is represented by a deity of war. As is imaginable of a warlord, Tuesdays are thought to carry a masculine energy of passion, courage and action.
Playlists for Mars’ day, contain transcendental, unbound jazz and alternative.
WEDNESDAZE are the day of Mercury, known across cultures as a messenger and mediator between deities and mortals. The planet and its day are associated with perception, cognition, communication, and the kind of agility and adaptability required to exist at the crossroads of two worlds – in other words, hip hop.
THURSDAZE, named for Jupiter which carries an optimistic, lucky and expansive energy often in pursuit of growth, knowledge and understanding. Probably much like a Sagittarius in your life, Jupiter and its daze can seem a little chaotic, but reliably intriguing.
Sounds for Thursdaze consist of global subculture music, often with the Afrodiasporic influence that shapes my worldview.
FRIDAZE are the day of Venus, goddess of love and harmony, relationships, beauty, elegance and pleasure.
Venus day sounds like R&B, smooth rap and other luxurious vibes.
SATURDAZE
Playlists for the day of discipline, structure, routine and ritual include driving, energetic house sounds – great for working and working out.
SUNDAZE are the true start of the week and a time to tap into the Sun’s energy of vitality, creation and visibility. Sundaze sounds of smooth Neo-soul and jazz are curated with rest, resetting and nostalgia in mind.
